5. Summary of Data Reported and Evaluation
5.1 Animal carcinogenicity data
The Working Group considered tests in which sunset yellow FCF was
administered to mice and rats by the oral route and to rats by the
subcutaneous route. In the oral experiments in mice there was no
evidence of carcinogenicity as compared with controls. Tests in rats
by the oral route showed negative results, but the experiments were
inadequately reported. Repeated subcutaneous injections in rats led to
neither local nor distant tumours.
5.2 Human carcinogenicity data
No case reports or epidemiological studies were available to the
Working Group.
