PESTICIDE RESIDUES IN FOOD - 1983

Sponsored jointly by FAO and WHO

    EVALUATIONS 1983

Data and recommendations of the joint meeting
of the FAO Panel of Experts on Pesticide Residues
in Food and the Environment and the
WHO Expert Group on Pesticide Residues
    Geneva, 5 - 14 December 1983

    DITHIOCARBAMATE FUNGICIDES

    RESIDUES

    Explanation

As a result of the 1980 review of dithiocarbamates by the
Meeting,1 several items were required by 1983, including further
development and comparison of analytical procedures, good agricultural
practice information and residue data for thiram, ferbam, ziram and
propineb, as well as residue data for dithiocarbamates grown under
glass. Further studies on other EBDC fungicides, which are ETU
precursors, were considered desirable. Limits for dimethyl
    dithiocarbamates ethylene-bisdithiocarbamates and
propylene-bisdithiocarbamates were considered temporary until the
    requirements were met.

Except for propineb, the only dithiocarbamate submissions for
review by this Meeting were information on national maximum residue
limits for dithiocarbamates, information on good agricultural
practices for thiram and a submission on EBDCs.

For propineb, the Meeting received good agricultural practice
information, residue trials data for a limited number of fruits and
vegetables from one country and plant metabolism data. However, all
dithiocarbamate submissions were received too late to permit
evaluation at this Meeting and will be considered at the next one. All
dithiocarbamate maximum residue levels are still considered temporary
until submitted data are evaluated and other outstanding requirements
    are met.
