    PROPOXUR

    Explanation

A proposal for a maximum residue limit of 0.05 mg/kg for propoxur
in cocoa beans is at step 6 in Codex procedures. This figure was
judged in 1973 to be at the limit of determination of the method
of analysis.* However, experience has shown that the limit is
unrealistically low and available methods of analysis are not suitable
    for enforcing this figure.

    RESIDUE AND ANALYTICAL ASPECTS

The Meeting was informed of work in progress to improve and
validate a method of residue analysis for propoxur in cocoa beans and
concluded that, although an alternative figure could not yet be
proposed, it was clear that the present figure of 0.05 mg/kg was
    invalid and should be withdrawn.
